After spending my four years of college in Durham, NC, I took a "post-graduation fall abroad" to travel, first to China, for the 1995 NGO Forum of the Fourth World Conference on Women, the to Japan, and then on a 12,845 mile odyssey across the United States--which wasn't exactly abroad, but, having grown up in Manhattan, I felt like I was in another country most of the way.
